A local man could be in serious legal trouble after being arrested for allegedly causing a serious crash in Lancaster County, according to authorities. The man stands accused of drunk driving as well as assaulting a Pennsylvania State Police trooper. If he is found guilty in criminal court, he could lose his license and/or face fines and even jail time.
The police report has confirmed that the 29-year-old man allegedly rear-ended a car while traveling on Lincoln Highway. The impact apparently forced the second car into oncoming traffic, causing another collision with another vehicle traveling the other way. The 29-year-old apparently fled the scene in his vehicle, which was discovered broken down a short distance away. Police say they recognized the driver from witness accounts.
Police attempted to apprehend the man, who they say was combative, so they used a stun gun to attempt to subdue him. At this point the man is said to have tackled one of the officers on the scene. He was arrested and charged with DUI, assault, resisting arrest, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, and a host of other charges.
It is unclear how police came to believe the man was intoxicated at the time of the accident. Pennsylvania prosecutors will attempt to prove this in court, but the man’s defense representation will work to provide a meaningful defense against drunk driving charges. This is especially true if roadside sobriety tests were not performed, or not performed correctly, as this could lead to the charges being reduced or even dropped altogether.
