Trucker in Pennsylvania charged with drunk driving

A truck driver originally from Texas is facing serious charges following a crash in Bentleyville, according to local sources. Pennsylvania authorities have reported the man reportedly smashed through a McDonald’s drive thru. He has been accused of drunk driving and is now being held in Washington County against a $25,000 bond.

According to the limited information released to the public at this time, it appears that around 2 a.m. the morning of May 2, the driver attempted to enter the drive thru lane of a McDonald’s restaurant. Police say in his attempt, the man crashed into the drive thru station as well as a mailbox, a sign, a utility pole and a gas line. There is no word as to whether anyone was injured, including the driver himself.

State police arriving on the scene reportedly tested the man for blood alcohol level, though they did not specify what sort of test was used. Police say his BAC came back at .123, beyond the legal limit in Pennsylvania. He was arrested and now faces charges of reckless driving, careless driving and driving under the influence. If he is found guilty, he could spend time in jail and also lose his trucking license.

Understandably, the loss of his license would directly impact his vocation. Pennsylvania prosecutors will have to prove the man is guilty of drunk driving at the time of the accident in order to secure a conviction. The man’s defense will likely review the timeline of his arrest and the specifics of how he was tested for intoxication. If the testing was conducted improperly, or long enough after the accident for the results to be called into question, that evidence could be inadmissible before the court. This could have a profound impact on the outcome of a trial.
