A woman police believe to be responsible for a two-vehicle crash in Peters Township has been arrested. Pennsylvania authorities apprehended the woman following the accident that left two people seriously injured. She has been charged with drunk driving and is awaiting a trial date, which has not been publicly announced at this time.
According to the police record, the woman was traveling through Peters Township around 7:04 p.m. the night of Nov. 17 when the accident occurred. The woman attempted to navigate a left-hand turn, causing her vehicle to collide with another car driven by a 26-year-old man. The force of the impact caused serious harm to the other driver, as well as to a 16-year-old passenger in the woman’s vehicle. The woman herself sustained minor injuries.
Police on the scene arrested the woman on suspicion of drunk driving, though it is unclear how they came to this determination. There was no mention in the report of a roadside sobriety, breath or blood test being conducted to ascertain her level of intoxication. It is also unclear at this time if she remains in police custody or if she has retained criminal defense representation.
If the woman is found guilty of the drunk driving charges, she could lose her license, possibly face jail time, and may also face civil suits from the injured parties or their guardians. However, Pennsylvania prosecutors will have to prove the woman was intoxicated, which means they will have to present compelling evidence proving she was above the legal limit. If the proper tests were not performed, or if they were performed incorrectly, that evidence could be ruled inadmissible in court, which could have an impact on the court’s sentencing decisions.
