Pennsylvania woman charged with drunk driving

A woman in Mercersburg may be in legal trouble following her arrest at a local police barracks in Chambersburg. The Pennsylvania woman is suspected of drunk driving and has been taken into police custody. She is now awaiting a preliminary hearing and remains in custody against a $1,000 bond set by the local court.

According to the unusual report, the 36-year-old woman drove to the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in nearby Chambersburg to pick up her boyfriend, who was not identified in the report. The boyfriend was apparently in custody for driving under the influence, so a sober driver was required for him to be released. However, when the woman arrived at the barracks, police say they had reason to believe she was also driving under the influence.

It is not clear from the report what steps were taken to confirm their suspicion. No mention was made of a roadside sobriety test or blood test being taken to corroborate the officers’ story. However, she was arrested and taken into custody. It is unknown whether the boyfriend was later released.

Drunk driving is taken very seriously in the state of Pennsylvania, but it is also important to acknowledge that alcohol addiction can play a role in people’s decision-making when it comes to driving under the influence. If prosecutors can prove the woman did indeed drive drunk to a police barracks, her defense team may choose to consider the potential of a plea bargain in return for court-mandated rehab. This will of course be contingent upon any other evidence that might be presented.
